Our Mission
Associates in Plastic Surgery provides our patients with the comprehensive
range of proven reconstructive and cosmetic procedures available with the
goal of providing the highest standard of quality in patient care. The
practice is built solidly on the principle that quality care produces
satisfied patients who will continue to refer others for our services.
With over two decades of consistent growth, this highly reputable group
continues to thrive on this foundation of quality care.
History
Our medical group began in 1978 when Dr. Charles Gruenwald,
Jr. and Dr. Michael Teague formed their initial partnership following
completion of their plastic surgery residencies in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The two partners opened their practice in Baton Rouge and were actively involved
in providing a full range of reconstructive and cosmetic surgery services
to our area patients. The practice of the two young surgeons was, in its
early years, principally focused on reconstructive surgery, where they
provided patients with some of the most current surgical treatment
techniques then available in their field.
In 1985, following years of steady growth, Dr. Ann Reilley joined the
practice as a young associate. She subsequently became the first board
certified female plastic surgeon in Louisiana in December 1988.
In 1988, the practice was relocated to a new modern clinical facility the
partners constructed to provide patients with the option of surgery in an
outpatient setting with the benefits of lower cost, greater privacy, and
reduced recovery time.
The practice continued its dramatic growth resulting in the addition of a
fourth partner in August 1997, when Dr. Gary Cox joined the group. With
the addition of Dr. Cox, the practice was able to provide a full spectrum
of plastic surgery procedures, including microsurgery and hand surgery.
Associates in Plastic Surgery became the largest plastic surgery group in
the state.
A fifth surgeon joined the group in March 1998, when Dr. John A. Dean was
added as a partner. He spent his first five years in Baton Rouge as the plastic surgeon for
the Ochsner Clinic. In addition to cosmetic surgery, Dr.
Dean brought additional excellence to the practice resources with his
extensive reconstructive surgery background and broadened the coverage
the practice could offer in microsurgery and hand surgery.
To continue to improve the quality of care, a major building program and
renovation was undertaken and completed in late 1999. With greatly
expanded surgical facilities, business offices, and state-of-the-art
computer networks Associates in Plastic Surgery continues to strive for
excellence in the level of patient care offered while maintaining highly
personable relationships with those patients we are privileged
to treat.
